This will
be a short blog. We are heading south
from Puerto Madryn to Cape Horn. This
journey will take a couple of days.
We were woken
up by a helicopter of the Argentinean Coast Guard this morning. It turns out one of the staff had a medical
emergency and needed to be medivac’d off the boat to a hospital in Argentina. Watching the copter make several attempts to
land makes you realize how dangerous it is making a landing on even calm seas.
Because of
the emergency, the boat had to make a significant deviation from its planned
route. So it turns out that we will not
be stopping in Puerto Arenas Chile. The
ships guest lecturer said this was not unusually as this area always has high
winds, which makes tendering from the boat to the shore impossible.
In the
afternoon we went to a show called “The Perfect Couple”. It was a competition where married couples
had to play embarrassing games. The
cruise directory was very funny as guided the couples through the show.
The
temperature is dropping slowly as we get closer to the southern tip of South
America. Also the seas are getting
slightly rougher. I think the waves seem
to be a meter or slightly less in height.
Not enough to make the boat difficult to traverse.
The evening
show was put on by the ships professional singers and dancers. I can only say that it stunk! The show was called Star Factory, in which
that cast sang hit songs from the past few decades. The male singers all have
voices that would not be out of place in a 1990’s boy band, so when one of them
attempted to mimic Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, it was worse than
pathetic.
Marg and
myself both had Chicken Kiev for dinner. It was very tasty.
